Joshua Terril Johnson M.Ed NCC LPC BC-TMHC CEAP SAP
Greetings! I am Joshua Johnson, and I am a National Certified Counselor and Licensed Professional Counselor, currently licensed in Georgia, DC, and Texas.
Originally from Jackson, MS, my love for counseling, my hometown community, and adversities throughout my life have prepared me with the required experience to provide outstanding services with a southern charm that will have a positive and long-standing impact on others. Most importantly, it has driven my desire to help others. My positive attitude and ability to adapt to adversity have been a great contributor to my success over the last decade of my career. While a student at Tougaloo College, I earned a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in Psychology. My matriculation through college has helped me develop an unquenchable thirst for knowledge that I seek to appease daily.
While excelling throughout my undergraduate and graduate studies, I began to realize that anything and everything is possible to accomplish with hard work and dedication. After completing my Master of Education, I relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, where I became a mental health therapist at a counseling agency in the metro area. While there, I provided evidence-based treatment to the families of children currently on probation in the metro area juvenile court systems. I also provided my services to those children who were learning how to transition back into their communities after long-term placement at the state’s juvenile detention facilities. After nearly a decade, I then chose to take a leap of faith and expound my skills and accepted an opportunity to experience Acute Psychiatric Care Units in New Jersey.
While relocated to NJ, I gained a wealth of knowledge and expert-level skill as a group counselor at Carrier Clinic in Belle Mead as well as at St. Francis Medical Center while working alongside highly trained psychiatrists. At St. Francis, I provided social work services to a highly acute and vulnerable inner-city demographic in the state’s capital, Trenton. It was during this time that I continued to add to my growing list of experiences, from adolescents with behavioral, conduct, and legal issues to adults dealing with trauma, psychotic disorders, homelessness, depressive and anxiety-related disorders, mood disorders, and chronic substance abuse. My time in NJ deepened my understanding of the importance of my work and my love for counseling. I then chose my next adventure in Trinity, Florida, where I provided inpatient therapy services at HCA Medical Center of Trinity.
I work hand in hand with clients to get over whatever speed bump life brings them, and I bring an eclectic style to counseling where I tailor each experience to meet the client’s specific needs. I create a safe environment where the therapist and client relationship is built on a positive foundation and sessions are filled with meaningful activities and creativity.
It takes courage to take the first step in seeking a happy and fulfilling life. I look forward to working with you on this road to becoming the best version of yourself, and I am here to support you throughout that process.
